Ravi Shankar Prasad is serving as the Minister of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology and Law and Justice. He is representing the Patna Sahib constituency. He is politically affiliated with Bharatiya Janata Party.
BACKGROUND– Ravi Shankar Prasad was born on 30th Aug 1954 to Late Thakur Prasad a senior advocate at the Patna High Court and was one of the founders of Jan Sangh a right-wing party that existed from 1951 to 1977 and Late Bimla Prasad a homemaker. His sister Anuradha Prasad was a previous congress spokesperson. He married Dr. Maya Shankar on 3rd Feb 1982 and they’ve two children.
UPBRINGING & EDUCATION– Ravi Shankar Prasad hails from Patna, Bihar. He did his graduation and post-graduation in Arts and also LLB from Patna University, Bihar.
WALK OF LIFE– Ravi Shankar Prasad began his political career in the early 70s and was also jailed during the emergency. He was a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. He was the Assistant General Secretary of his university.
In the 1980s he started practicing at Patna High Court. He was appointed as a senior advocate of Patna High Court in the year 1999 and was appointed as Senior Advocate of Supreme Court of India in the year 2000.
He was the Member of the National Executive Committee of Bharatiya Janata Party in the year 1995. For the first time, he was elected to Rajya sabha in the year 2000. He was the Minister of State in the Ministry of Coal and Mines in 2001. He was also given the additional charge of Ministry of Law and Justice in 2002.
In 2003 he was given the independent charge of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. In the year 2006 he was elected to the Rajya sabha. In 2010 he was BJP’s national General Secretary and Chief National Spokesperson. In 2012 he was once again got elected to the Rajya sabha.
In the year 2014 to the present, he is Minister of Electronics and Information Technology and Minister of Law and was also given the additional charge of Communication Ministry in 2019. In 2018 he got elected to the Rajya Sabha and in May 2019 was elected to the Loksabha.
MAJOR INITIATIVES TAKEN– Ravi Shankar Prasad took many initiatives to bring growth in the production of manufacturing of mobile phones in India. And bought Common Service Centres. Stree Swabhiman Initiative for manufacturing of low-cost sanitary napkins by rural villages for their economic development.
