MAJOR INITIATIVES TAKEN- The Minister of State (IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Raj Kumar Singh announced a cumulative target of 175 GW renewable energy based electric installed capacity of 100 GW solar power installed capacity, issued guidelines for procurement of solar and wind power through tariff based competitive bidding process;

Declared Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) up to the year 2018-19; Declared Renewable Generation Obligation on new coal/lignite based thermal plants; Notified National Offshore Wind Energy Policy; Notified policy for Repowering of Wind Power Projects; Notified standards for deployment of solar photovoltaic systems/devices;

Issued order for waiving the Inter State Transmission System charges and losses for inter-state sale of solar and wind power for projects to be commissioned by March 2019; Launched Atal Jyoti Yojna for Solar LED Street Lights in five States and Launched Surya Mitra programme for developing a cadre of trained manpower for deployment of solar energy projects.

In May 2014, Raj Kumar Singh was elected to 16th Lok Sabha.

From September 1, 2014 onwards he was member of Committee of Privileges, member of Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare and member of Consultative Committee under Ministry of Defence.

From September 15, 2014 to May 25, 2019 he was made a member of Committee on Violation of Protocol Norms and Contemptuous Behaviour of Government Officers with members of Lok Sabha and a member of National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR).

From 1 May, 2015 to 7 June, 2018 he was a member of Jonit Committee on Security in Parliament House Complex, a member of The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Standing Committee on International Peace and Security and member of India China Parliamentary Friendship Group.

From 19 October, 2016 to 3 September, 2017 he was made a member of Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice.

From 3 September 2017 to 25 May 2019 he took a position as Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) under Ministry of Power and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
