Nityanand Rai is the Minister of State for Home Affairs since 2019. He’s is politically affiliated to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

BACKGROUND – Nityanand Rai was born in a farmer’s family. His father Late Ganga Vishnu Rai was the head of Gram Panchayat of Karnpura village, Vaishali District, Bihar, and his mother Late Tetari Devi was a homemaker. He married Amita Rai on 13th July 1989 and they have a daughter.

UPBRINGING & EDUCATION– Nityanand Rai hails from Karnpura village of Vaishali district, Bihar. He did Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from R.N. Degree College, Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, Bihar

WALK OF LIFE– Nityanand Rai joined as a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in the year 1982. He was also the division head and departmental leader of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). He was the student’s union president of R.N. Degree College.

He also served as the volunteer of RSS. Mr. Rai joined Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) in the year 1990. He was the Minister and State General Secretary of Bihar State of Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha and was served as the president in the year 1998.

For the first time, in the year 2000, he was elected from the Hajipur constituency in the Bihar Assembly elections and he was elected continuously for three terms from the same constituency.

He was also the state secretary, general secretary, and the president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of Bihar. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he fought from the Ujiarpur, Samastipur district adjacent district of his previous constituency and won the same.

In the year 2016, he was the head of the state of Bharatiya Janata Party. In the year 2019, he was elected to the Lok Sabha for the second term and subsequently served as the State Home Minister.

CONTROVERSIES– Nityanand Rai in October 2020 made a controversial remark by saying “if the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) wins the Assembly election in Bihar, Kashmiri militants will take shelter in Bihar. He also sparked controversy in November 2017 while speaking at a party meeting, he said “if anyone would raise his fingers or hands towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we all should either break those fingers or chop off the hands” later he apologized.

Previously in August 2017, he said “sound of Bharat Mata Ki Jai should replace again from mosques and church bells” and later he told he never said this. A criminal case was registered against him in plotting a conspiracy of the murder of previous State Minister Motilal Kanan’s son Atul Kanan, in Hajipur in 2013.
