BACKGROUND – Gahlot was born 22nd July 1974 in Delhi in a Jat family. He belongs to Mitraun village in Najafgarh, where his family has lived for generations and has been persistently working for the people of that area.
He studied BA Hons. in Political Science from Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi and in 1994-95 he was elected the President of Students Union. He pursued his Bachelors in law from Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. He also did his LL.M from Faculty of Law, University of Delhi.
He is an accomplished Advocate in the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court with over 16 years of legal practice. He has won 2 elections in 2015 and 2020 from Aam Admi Party as an MLA from “Najafgarh” Vidhan Sabha constituency. Curreently, he is a Cabinet Minister in the Delhi government.

2005-From 2005 to 2007, Gahlot was elected as Member Executive in Bar Association of High Court of Delhi.
2015- He won his first election to the Delhi Legislative Assembly in February 2015, and he represents the Najafgarh constituency of New Delhi and is a member of the Aam Aadmi Party political party.
2017- he is also a cabinet minister of Arvind Kejriwal led Delhi government and presently holding the Transport, Revenue, Law, Justice & Legislative Affairs, Information & Technology, Administrative Reforms portfolios.
CONTROVERSIES/CASES – Gahlot had come under the scanner of the Income-Tax department, which conducted raid at 16 premises linked to to him in connection with an alleged tax evasion case in 2018.
