The Kerala High Court has asked the opinion of the central government in a PIL seeking a CBI probe in the Air India Express mishap that killed 19 passengers this year.

Chief Justice S Manikumar and Justice Shaji P Chaly had also issued notice to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, including the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

The petitioner, Advocate Yeshwanth Shenoy, has asked for a response in the temporary closure of the Calicut Airport.

In the petition, Shenoy states that the Airport has not followed the norms set by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

He has sought to set up an inquiry chaired by a retired High Court/ Supreme Court Judge under the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules, 2017.

Furthermore, he has demanded an immediate inquiry as interim relief.
Shenoy has also recounted his previous litigation concerning the Calicut Airport before the High Court in 2016.
