The Vanderburgh County Council continues to pursue expansion of local courtrooms and unanimously passed a motion to approve design works on phases one and two of the expansion project.

The approval of expansion of phases one and two are up to $200,000. More can be allotted if required.

Circuit Court Judge David Kiley explained that having more courtrooms will help the people as well as the county. He said,

“We have people in our jail that are not getting their constitutional right to a fair trial. I want to give them those rights. That is my job as a judge. Without the appropriate space, I can’t do that. I think that’s a big issue.”

He also reminded the council that lack of adequate courtroom space cost the county almost $300,000 in 2019.
