On Monday, the Supreme Court of India gave permission to Congress MP Karti Chidambaram’s Application to travel abroad.
The Apex Court also placed a condition of depositing Rs. 1 crore before flying to abroad.
Karti Chidambaram, through an application asked for the permission of the Top Court to fly Abroad as he is relived on bail in various Cases like the Aircel-Maxis, INX Media Case.
A Bench compromising Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice CT Ravikumar gave permission to him to fly abroad although the Application was opposed by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta.
Solicitor General Mehta mentioned before the Court that Chidambaram has been non-cooperative in investigation of the Cases.
Adding to this, the Solicitor General also stated that he has not responded to summons issued to him in an appropriate manner.
Listening to this, the Bench asked the Solicitor General to submit an Affidavit with regarding this matter and stated that this matter can be dealt later after the Affidavit is Filed.
The Bench also observed that it was for the first time that the Solicitor General stated that the Applicant was non-cooperative during the Investigation.
Furthermore, after observing that the application by Chidambaram was filed after giving prior notice to the Respondent and was also adjourned from last two hearings, the Bench allowed him to fly abroad between 25th October to 21st November 2021.
It should be noted here that earlier also Karti was allowed to travel after furnishing his detailed itinerary and depositing a security of ₹2 crore.
Karti, who is the son of Senior Advocate and former Union Minister P Chidambaram is an accused in many Cases including Accused of taking Bribes to help a television company, INX Media.
