Seat Reservation: TMC will seek One-Third Reservation of Lok Sabha Seats and Assemblies for Women

Derek O’Brien, a Trinamool Congress Lawmaker, plans to Move a Motion in Rajya Sabha seeking the Passage of a Bill to Reserve one-third of Lok Sabha and State Assembly seats for Women.

The Trinamool Congress’s Chairperson, Mamata Banerjee, is India’s only female Chief Minister. O’Brien will make the motion under Rule 168, which allows Members to raise Public-Interest Issues. The Lok Sabha has 15% female Lawmakers, while the Rajya Sabha has 12.2%.

Amit Shah, the Union Home minister, is scheduled to introduce the Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill for Consideration and Passage in the Lok Sabha.

The Bill seeks to Repeal the Identification of Prisoners Act, which was passed in 1920. It proposes that Police be allowed to collect fingerprints, palm prints, footprint impressions, photographs, iris and retina scans, biological samples, their analysis, behavioural characteristics, and so on.

Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to introduce Legislation in Rajya Sabha to amend the Chartered Accountants Act of 1949, the Cost and Works Accountants Act of 1959, and the Company Secretaries Act of 1980. The Amendments have been approved by the Lok Sabha.

Union Minister Arjun Munda will amend the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 in the Upper House to include certain Communities in Tripura on the list of Scheduled Tribes.
