Satish Chandra Sharma, Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, opened the conference on Remediating Environmental Pollution for the Protection of Human Rights on Saturday at the Delhi Judicial Academy in New Delhi.

The Delhi Judicial Academy, the Delhi State Legal Services Authority, the Central Pollution Control Board, and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee collaborated to organize the conference.

It was planned to carry out the National Human Rights Commission’s directive.

Judges from the Delhi High Court, leaders and representatives of different government agencies, judicial officers, and legal assistance attorneys all attended the opening session.

The conference was especially exceptional since, in addition to those who attended in person, representatives of industrial associations and resident welfare associations also took part digitally.

The Chief Justice emphasized the importance of integrating environmental ideals and needs into educational lifestyle, social behavior, and civic responsibility in his speech at the conference’s opening session.

He emphasized the need for everyone to take responsibility and for the community to enforce this newfound awareness.

On this occasion, an e-booklet was also published with the intention of raising environmental awareness among the populace and emphasizing the need for everyone to take action to reduce environmental pollution.

A plantation drive was conducted before the conference. The Delhi Judicial Academy was praised by Chief Justice Sharma for organizing the drive. He recognized the efforts made by all conference organizers to raise environmental awareness about how pollution affects human rights.

In order to ensure that the conference is handled in an environmentally responsible way, it is important to note that the conference resorted to paperless registration with QR codes, used recyclable and biodegradable materials, and released an e-booklet instead of a normal paper-based one.

QR codes were also used to provide conference reading materials.

The first step in coming up with a meaningful solution, according to Justice Vibhu Bakhru, is realizing the size of the issue and that there is no way to wish it away. He referred to the conference as a ground-breaking endeavor due to the participation of stakeholders from diverse industries.

He also praised the organizers’ efforts to use less paper at the meeting by utilizing technology.

Four technical sessions were also included in the conference, each of which focused on a different aspect of environmental pollution, including air, water, noise, and solid waste.

Anumita Roychowdhury, the Executive Director of the Centre for Science and Environment, was one of many well-known environmentalists who attended the conference and spoke there.
