One day after the violence that broke out in Delhi regarding the tractor rally held by protesting farmers, almost 2000 people have an FIR lodged against them by the police.
9 farm leaders including Yogendra Yadav, prominent activist and member of party Swaraj Abhiyan, who had earlier said he felt ashamed for his part in the protests.
The FIRs have been lodged under Sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 307 (attempt to murder), and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as Section 8 of the National Highways Act.
The police stated that not all people involved have been identified and the matter is still under investigation. They are yet to make any arrests. The protestors had tried to enter Faridabad district but had been stopped by the police personnel.
Officials also alleged the Superintendent of police of the area and other officers narrowly evaded a truck running over them and that with some difficulty had convinced the protestors to turn back to Palwal.
Section 144 has been imposed on Faridabad district in Haryana as per apprehension to tension, damage to property and loss of life, in his order DM Yadav stated that five or more people could not form gatherings and were banned from carrying sticks, swords and any kinds of firearms.
The security checks at the Red Fort were also destroyed and vandalised in the aftermath of yesterday’s protests.
