Khan Chacha restaurant owner Navneet Kalra has been sent to 14 day judicial custody by the Delhi High court, rejecting police’s plea for extension of police custody by 5 days.

The Metropolitan Magistrate Akanksha Garg of Saket court rejected the police plea on the grounds that no fruitful purpose will be served by extending the police custody of the accused.

The district judge added that the offence alleged is of grave nature which has impact on public at large but the court of law will not be carried away by the sentiments of the police.

The police in their plea contended to extend the custody to create the mirror images of the recovered mobile phones of Kalra and also to segregate the data of the laptop.

However, Senior Advocate Vikas Pahwa, representing Kalra, opposed the remand application by stating that all the recoveries have been done and nothing is left for further custodial interrogation of Kalra.

Kalra is alleged for hoarding and black marketing of essential drugs and medical equipments used for Covid patients and were in high demand due to the second wave of the pandemic.

The court has listed to hear the matter of his regular bail plea on 25 May.
