Delhi Police files FIR against Sharjeel Usmani for “Objectionable Tweets”

The Delhi Police registered a case against Sharjeel Usmani, former Aligarh Muslim University student leader for allegedly posting “objectionable tweets”

The complaint was raised by BJP’s media head Naveen Kumar who accused that Usmani’s tweets against Lord Ram and late journalist Rohit Sardana were defamatory and mischievous therefore intended to hurt religious sentiments.

Naveen Kumar told that a complaint was filed by him on 19th May, 2021 at Laxmi Nagar Police station mentioning Usmani’s tweets on lord ram and Sardana’s death.

“The tweet is likely to cause fear and generate a feeling of insecurity and hatred among members of religious communities,” Stated the complaint.

Following the complaint the police booked Usmani under IPC section 505 (statements conducing to public mischief), the police further registered a non-cognizable report, and stated that the matter will be taken to the curt following the due course.

Similarly, on 20th May, a case was registered against Usmani at Jalna in Maharashtra under IPC 295-A (malicious act outraging religious feelings) and the Information Technology Act on the complaint of a Hindu Jagran Manch member.
