Technology giant Google has filed a Writ Petition in the Delhi High Court against the “leak” of the Fact-Finding Inquiry against the Company by the Director General (DG) of the Competition Commission of India (CCI).

The Company said, “We are deeply concerned that the Director General’s Report, which contains our confidential information in an ongoing case, was leaked to the Media while in the custody of the CCI. Protecting confidential information is fundamental to any Governmental Investigation.”

It further stated, “We are pursuing our legal right to seek remedies and prevent further unlawful disclosures. We completely cooperated and maintained confidentiality throughout the Investigation, and we hope and expect the same level of confidentiality from the Institutions we engage with.”

The investigation, which began in April 2019, questioned Google, whose Android Operating System controls over 98% of the Smart Phone market, as well as many Indian and International technology businesses.

According to reports, the Investigation found that Google India stifled competition and innovation to the detriment of the market and consumers in order to preserve its dominance not just on Android’s Google Play Store, but also on the Chrome browser and Google Search.

Lastly, the Company said that Google has not yet had the opportunity to review the findings of DG, much less submit its defence to any allegations.
