Flipkart legally challenges India to stop the anti-trust probe

Sejal Chaturvedi –

Walmart owned Flipkart had legally challenged an Indian Court’s decision of ordering anti-trust probe to restart into Flipkart and Amazon.

Flipkart had asked a Court in the southern state of Karnataka to annul the antitrust watchdog’s investigation order against the company,

In January of 2020, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) launched an investigation after receiving a complaint stating that Amazon and Flipkart favored some sellers on their e-commerce platforms and that deep discounts hampered competition.

In their defense both the firms had denied any wrongdoing.

After being put on hold for more than a year, the Court this week permitted the investigation to resume, dismissing the firms’ arguments.

As the antitrust watchdog strengthens its monitoring of big-tech corporations, the agency aims to speed up an investigation into charges of anticompetitive behaviors at Amazon and Flipkart.
