The European Union’s Chief argued on Tuesday with Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, highlighting that a later ruling from the country’s Constitutional Court challenging the supremacy of the Bloc’s foundations and won’t be left unanswered.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Mateusz Morawiecki concealed their differences of opinion on Rule-Of-Law principles during a stern debate with EU lawmakers.

Ms Von der Leyen summoned Mr Morawiecki for trying to escape the debate on the primacy of European law.

Mr Morawiecki replied, “Poles are in favour of the ‘power of the rule of law’ and don’t believe in blackmail or paternalistic attitudes towards their country.”

Relation between Warsaw and Brussels crashed after the Tribunal ruled on October 7 that Polish laws take lead over those of the 27-nation bloc – which Poland joined in 2004 – raising prolonged tensions over Democratic Standards between the country’s right-wing nationalist Government and Brussels.

” The Polish ruling challenges the unity of the European legal order and undermines the protection of Judicial Independence “ Ms Von der Leyen stated in her defence.

Substantially, the dispute is about who should have greater power within the 27-nation Bloc-each nation’s citizens or the EU institutions over the member nations.

It was the initial force behind the exit of Britain from the EU, and it has instigated several eastern and central European nations like Poland and Hungary.

Addressing EU politicians in Strasbourg on Tuesday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the judgement by Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal later this month was a straight challenge to the union of the European legal order and threatens the safety of Judicial Independence.

Furthermore, Von der Leyen stated, “The rule of law is the glue that binds our union together.”

Prime Minister Morawiecki on Tuesday in his speech highlighted that we are now seeing a creeping revolution taking place by way of verdicts of the European Court of Justice.
