The officials believe that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s name could be included in the warrants. The ICC is also reportedly considering warrants for Hamas leaders, though specific individuals and charges are not yet clear.
The potential warrants could stem from allegations that Israeli officials obstructed humanitarian aid to Gaza following a strong response to a Hamas attack on October 7. The US administration has expressed its opposition to the ICC’s investigation into Israel’s actions in Gaza. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre emphasized that the primary focus of discussions between Netanyahu and Biden was securing a ceasefire and humanitarian aid for Gaza, as well as reaffirming US support for Israel’s security. Jean-Pierre reiterated the US position that the ICC does not have jurisdiction in this situation and that the US does not support the investigation.
