The Delhi High Court on Monday stated that it does not want any Athlete to be Harassed excessively and requested that the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) clear Manika Batra, who has filed a Suit against the National Sports Body.

The Judge was considering Batra’s Appeal, in which she claimed that TTFI was conducting its selection processes in a non-transparent manner and that some persons, including herself, were being targeted.

Batra claims that national coach Soumyadeep Roy “Pressured” her to “Throw Away” an Olympic qualifier match in favor of one of his trainees after she was left out of the Indian squad for the Asian Table Tennis Championships.

The top-ranked woman paddler in India had previously told the Court that she was being targeted by the National Federation for bringing her issues in Court and that now the International federation was treating her similarly.

During the hearing, the Court also pulled up the TTFI for “Overreaching” its order directing an inquiry by the Centre into its affairs, saying it “Will take Suo Moto Contempt”.

The Court ordered that the TTFI’s correspondences be entered into the record at the next hearing on November 17.

The Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Khel Ratna awardee have filed a Petition to overturn TTFI rules requiring mandatory participation at the National Coaching Camp for selection in International competitions.

The Centre had previously stated that the federation’s rule requiring mandatory attendance at the National camp was contrary to the sports code and undermined merit.

The TTFI defended the rule, claiming that similar rules existed in other sports like weightlifting and judo.“This incident happened on March 17, 2021, in respect of the match to be held on March 18, 2021, at the Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament, 2021 organized by ATTU (Asian Table Tennis Union). Not only did the petitioner refuse to comply with such an unethical, illegal and immoral request, but she also immediately communicated this to the Adviser, TTFI, on March 18, 2021,” the plea said.
