A notice was issued to Aaj Tak, Press Council of India, News Broadcasters Association of India, and the Centre by the Delhi High Court seeking their response against the allegations concerning the spread of fake news in Aaj Tak.

The Bench comprising Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh was hearing the petitions filed by MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, and Manjit Singh GK, former President of
Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee.

The petition contends the news channel’s report on 26th January 2021 that “unleashes an offensive and potentially fatal communal attack on the “Sikh” community by continuous circulation and constant transmission of unverified videos through different platfoms
including their respective news channels, YouTube and other such digital and online platforms.”

The petition, filed through advocates Parminder Singh, Naveen Chaudhary, and BS Bagga seeks to refrain the television authorities from telecasting fake news and to make guidelines to uphold accountability of these departments.

The next hearing of the matter is scheduled on 26th February 2021.
