Delhi Court decided to extend the police remand of five individuals who were arrested in connection with the Tis Hazari court firing case. The court granted the Delhi Police another opportunity to recover the weapon used in the offense. However, the court expressed dissatisfaction with the police for failing to recover the weapon during the previous remand.

The accused individuals, namely Sachin Sangwan, Aman Singh, Ravi Gupta, Manish Sharma, and Lalit Sharma, were presented before the court after their police custody. Magistrate Katyayini Sharma Kandwal extended the police custody of all the accused for one more day after considering the arguments from the Delhi Police and the counsels representing the accused.

The court instructed that all the accused should be produced before the concerned court on Tuesday. The Delhi Police requested a two-day extension of the remand, stating that it was necessary to recover the main weapon, apprehend other co-accused persons, and conduct a joint interrogation of the arrested individuals.

The counsels for the accused did not oppose the extension and conceded to the application and submissions made by the Investigation Officer and the Public Prosecutor. Different advocates represented the accused persons in court. The Link Magistrate observed that Sachin Sangwan, Aman Singh, and Ravi Gupta were in police custody for four days starting from July 6, 2023, while Manish Sharma and Lalit Sharma were in custody for three days from July 7, 2023.

The Investigation Officer informed the court that some recovery of weapons had already been made, but there were still pending recoveries and arrests of other co-accused individuals. The court expressed disappointment that all the weapons and arrests were not made within the specified period, considering that they were expected to be completed within Delhi’s jurisdiction. However, the court granted the investigating agency one more opportunity to recover the weapon on the same day.

The court directed the IO to provide a detailed report to the concerned court if the recovery was not made before the next date of hearing. It was noted that all the accused individuals are lawyers, although the licenses of some of them have been suspended by the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD). Lalit Sharma is the brother of Bar Secretary Atul Sharma, and Manish Sharma holds the position of Senior Vice President of the Delhi Bar Association.
