Delhi cops pulled up by Court for detaining citizen illegally

In Delhi, one of the courts pulled the police department of Delhi up for the illegal detention of a man in a case of theft. And for demanding monetary compensation of Rs. 50,000 from his sister to help him be bailed out.

It was also stated that this case of theft appears solved just for the namesake of solving it.

The Additional Sessions judge of the court steered the deputy commissioner of Dwarka police to launch an enquiry into this matter about the alleged demand made to the accused’s sister by these police officials. The judge, Sonu Agnihotri also asked them to file a report on the same by January 13, 2021.

The DCP was further directed to take some action with regards to the illegal arrest of Ravi Nanda, the accused. And the court asked for an Action Taken Report (ATR) to be filed on the same by January 13 once again.

Bail was granted to Mr Nanda with the equipment of a bail bond worth Rs. 20,000 with a single surety of a similar amount by the court. It also noted that the IO (Investigating Officer) stated that the accused was arrested purely on the coincidence that his sister is in possession of a yellow motorcycle that has red rims, which fits the description of the complainant.

When the IO was asked by the court whether they can be other such motorcycles with the same description, his submission was that there was a probability. It was also submitted that no recovery of any stolen property from Mr Nanda had taken place upon his arrest.
