The CBI has filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) before the Supreme Court challenging Calcutta High Court’s order allowing house arrest of Narada case accused and senior leaders of TMC.

The probe agency, CBI in its plea also sought deferment of a larger Bench hearing in the matter.

The High Court had ordered shifting of two West Bengal ministers, an MLA and a former Kolkata mayor to house arrest from jail on May 21 modifying its earlier order that stayed their bail granted by Special CBI Court.

West Bengal Transport Minister Firhad Hakim, Panchayat Minister Subrata Mukherjee, TMC MLA Madan Mitra and former Kolkata mayor Sovan Chatterjee were arrested in connection with the Narada case investigated by the CBI as per the High Court order 2017.

The case relates to an undercover investigation carried by a news outlet to uncover the corruption within TMC, where politicians were allegedly caught receiving cash in exchange of favours meted out to a business firm.
