Calcutta HC: State to File Report regarding Fake Vaccination Camp

On Wednesday, a division bench of the Calcutta High Court, consisting of Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Arijit Banerjee, ordered the State government to file a detailed affidavit updating the Court on the status of the investigation into the alleged fake COVID-19 vaccination camps run by accused, Debanjan Deb.

Following accusations that he was conducting fake vaccination camps while posing as an IAS officer, the culprit was arrested by Kolkata police.

According to the Kolkata Police, more than 800 persons, including ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mimi Chakraborty, were allegedly injected with the antibiotic Amikacin instead of the Covid-19 vaccine at the accused’s fraudulent vaccination programmes.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed by the State government to look into the subject matter. The Bench was hearing several of the public interest lawsuits (PILs) that sought an independent inquiry by a government entity into the problem.

The Court questioned the State administration about how the accused could drive around with impunity while using a blue beacon on his car. The Court observed, “Learned counsel for the State shall also apprise the Court about the misuse of blue and red lights in the State of West Bengal on the vehicles totally in violation of the law.”

The State government is to file the above-mentioned affidavit before the next hearing date, which is July 2.
