The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday allowed the State Election Commission (SEC) to count and declare the results of Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) polls.
The SEC filed an appeal against a single Bench Judgement delivered on May 21, which ordered SEC to direct new notification for ZPTC and MPTC elections.
The Bench suspended the notification after observing that SEC has not followed all the prescribed rules and guidelines of Supreme Court recommended four weeks prior to the Elections.
Following the incident, SEC filed an Appeal Petition.
The Bench comprising Chief Justice Arup Kumar Goswami and Justice C Praveen Kumar set aside the order of Single-Judge Bench and allowed polling but denied the publication of results.
On Thursday, a Bench comprising Chief Justice (CJ) Justice Arup Kumar Goswami and Justice J Umadevi finally allowed the completion of the Poll Process.
Before delivering the orders, a long argument went on where SEC argued that it has followed all the guidelines and on the other hand the other side argued that SEC didn’t follow the guidelines of the Apex Court.
It should be noted here that the Bench heard this matter on August 5 itself but declared the verdict on 16 September.
The MPTC and ZPTC elections got conducted on April 8 for 7,220 MPTC and 515 ZPTC seats.
