A Singapore court has sentenced an Indian-origin woman and her British husband to jail for violating the Country’s Covid-19 safety norms.

As per the media reports, 39-year-old Agatha Maghesh Eyamalai was condemned to serve a week in jail, while her husband Nigel Skea, 52, was condemned to serve fourteen days’ prison and was ordered to pay a fine of 1,000 Singapore Dollar (USD 752).

The couple breached the safety guidelines for the reason so they could spend some time together in a hotel.

In September, Nigel asked Eyamalai, who was his fiancée then; to meet him in a room at the hotel he was quarantining in post his arrival in Singapore from London.

District Judge Jasvender Kaur said it was not strict for her to dismiss their clarification for their breach that Skea had traveled from London to propose marriage to Eyamalai and both of them were overwhelmed by feelings after not seeing each other for an exceptionally prolonged period.

“The truth is that the limitations are important to control the spread of the pandemic,” she stressed.

Quoting Kaur’s statement from her pronouncement order, Channel Asia news wrote. “Disturbances to relationships are an inevitable consequence. It requires tolerance and penance (from) everybody … for everyone’s benefit.”

The pair confessed to their wrongs and pleaded guilty to the offense a month ago.

Skea admitted to two charges of causing the dangers of exposing the general public to the spread of the virus by leaving his hotel while he was directed to remain in quarantine and violating the standard rule of wearing facial masks.

Eyamalai, who was currently married to Skea, admitted to one of the charges of contriving with Skea to breach the quarantine rules and meet him.
