Donald Trump nominates Indian-American advocate for Associate Judge

Donald Trump, President of the United States nominated Advocate Vijay Shanker, an Indian- American, for the position of Associate Judge of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.

The District of Columbia Court of Appeals is recognized as the Highest Court in Washington DC.

Donald Trump, on 3rd January, during a communique to the Senate, made this nomination for 15 years, and he had first announced his nomination in June.

In case Vijay Shanker is appointed by the Senate he would be replacing John R Fisher, a retired advocate.

Vijay Shanker currently serves as a Senior Litigation Counsel in the Department of Justice, Criminal Division, and Deputy Chief of the Appellate Section.

Before Vijay Shanker joined the Justice Department in 2012, he was in private practice with Washington, DC, offices of Mayer Brown, LLC and Covington and Burling, LLP.

He also served as a law clerk to Judge Chester J Straub on the United States Court of Appeals after he graduated from Law school.

He completed his bachelor’s from Duke University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law.

He also served as a Notes Editor for the Virginia Law Review and was inducted into the Order of the Coif.
