Sukhmeet Pal Singh, better known as the gangster Sukh Bhikhariwal, will spend 8 days in police custody as per the instructions of a Delhi court.

The man, hailing from Punjab, is said to be a Khalistani network sympathizer with links to several high-level Khalistani terrorists. He was arrested by the Delhi police’s Special Cell on December 31 from the Indira Gandhi International Airport before his departure to Dubai.

On the same day, he was produced in front of the Duty Metropolitan’s Magistrate, Himanshu Seloth. Upon the magistrate’s instructions, the police have been given time till January 7 to interrogate him.

The court remarked that they looked through the records as well as the case file thoroughly. And the allegations made upon Bhikhariwal are quite serious and that his custody is demanded questioning him on the same.

The accused’s defense advocate, Prashant Prakash, opposed the police request as the investigation qua has already begun, and that the 8-day remand is far too high for being confronted with the police gathered material. It wouldn’t take that much time for his client to be questioned about what they have, which was the crux of his opposition.

The case lodged against the gangster is under various sections from forgery, provisions of the Passport Act to criminal conspiracy. His involvement is also said to be included under ISI’s behest and targeted killings made under their command.

Security agencies are currently claiming his arrest as a success since they believe his involvement in the murder of Balwinder Sandhu, the previous Shaurya Chakra awardee in Punjab.

He’s also wanted by the Punjab Police on the belief that he’s connected to numerous murders, extortion as well as kidnapping cases.

The Special Cell gained information on Sukh due to their recent arrest of 5 terrorists with Khalistani links. Upon interrogating them, they revealed intelligence upon the gangster’s involvement as well.
