A Muzaffarnagar Court in Uttar Pradesh has ordered a retired Army woman to pay Rs.2000 alimony per month to her ex-husband with no stable income.

The Court observed that the 62-year old Kishori Lal Sohankar owned a tea stall and did not have a permanent stable income and his ex-wife Munni Devi had recently retired from the Indian Army.

Munni Devi gets Rs.12000 as monthly pension from the Army.

Reportedly, Kishori had earlier filed a petition seeking directions to bring home his enstranged wife. But when that did not happen, he was compelled to file for maintenance.

Payment of alimony by a wife to husband is a very rare instance in India and does not usually happen; so it took a lot of convincing to make the Court grant such an order.
