The Apex Court said that the farmers’ protests could soon become an issue of national importance.
Therefore, it suggested to hold talks and form a centre-farmer panel to resolve the dispute amicably.
A bench led by CJI S A Bobde observed that the talks between the central government and farmer organizations did not achieve the desired results.
CJI said, “We will form a committee to resolve the dispute. It will have members of Bharatiya Kisan Union, Government of India and other farmer organizations. We will ask farmer organizations to be also a part of the committee, as it will soon become a national issue.”
The Court was hearing the petitions filed seeking termination of the protest led by farmers in and around Delhi.
SG Tushar Mehta, representing the government, said that the talks with the protesters were not fruitful because the protestors’ approach is “either repeal the Farm Acts or don’t repeal.”
CJI Bobde asked names of the organizations from the protestors’ side who can appear before the top court.
The farmers are protesting against the three farm laws proposed by the central government.
