The High Court of Punjab and Haryana has asked the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh, to keep the proceedings of NRI seat counselling for MBBS Course in a sealed cover.

Aanchal Setia filed a petition against the Chandigarh Administration and other Respondents.

The Bench comprising Justice Rajan Gupta and Justice Karamjit Singh observed that the counselling for admission to the course was in progress.

A doubt was raised to the UT and the GMCH whether they would be able to explain the Bench as to the filling of seats in various categories.

The Bench added that the petitioner’s counsel prayed that the candidate is allowed to participate in the NRI category.

The Bench said:

“However, we notice from the application form that the petitioner originally applied in the general category. Thus, at this stage, we are not inclined to accept this prayer.”

It further said, “However, it is directed that proceedings of the counselling for the NRI seats be kept in a sealed cover.”

The Bench had asked the counsel appearing for the UT and the college to notify the court of further proceedings.
