Various Opposition party members condemn the arrest of 21 year old climate activist Disha Ravi after the student-activist was arrested by the Delhi Police with relations to a “toolkit” that was shared by Greta Thunberg.

She was arrested from Bengaluru for a 5-day custody by a Delhi Court after claims of the Delhi police, that their Cyber Cell had found out that Ravi was an editor of the toolkit and a key conspirator in its formulation and dissemination.

Delhi Chief Minister spoke against the move stating that the arrest was an attack on democracy, Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Priynka Chaturvedi stated the youth speaking their mind was unfortunately considered sedition by the Government of India and that they need to not be silenced.

P Chidambaram, Congress MP, stated that a democracy that can be threatened by a young student and climate activist is standing on very shaky foundations and it was worth noting that this toolkit to help farmers was more threatening than the intrusion of Chinese troops into Indian territory.

Other Congress leaders like Anand Sharma, Shashi Tharoor also soundly gave their support to the activist.

The Delhi Police’s allegations were that Ravi had collaborated with a pro-Khalistani force to spread disaffection against the Indian state and had herself shared the toolkit with Greta Thunberg.

The toolkit essentially encouraged twitter storm and protesting outside Indian embassies.
