French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a new law to free France from “foreign influences” and tackling radical Islamism.

The measures to deal with radical Islamism will include giving local officials extra-legal powers to combat religious separatism. Funding will be provided to better the social infrastructure, including education and civilisation.

Associations found to be revoking ideas against the republican principles will be ordered to disband.

Macron said that the aim is to “liberate French Islam from foreign influences.”

He further stated, “Our challenge is to fight against those who go off the rails in the name of religion … while protecting those who believe in Islam and are full citizens of the republic.”
