The Delhi High Court issued a notification to the Centre and the Facebook-owned WhatsApp Inc. on a plea filed seeking direction to provide an option to opt-out of sharing their personal data with Facebook.

The petition filed is against the new privacy policy that was announced by WhatsApp earlier, which mandates the sharing of personal data.

This notification was issued by a bench comprising Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh.

The Delhi High Court sought Centre’s stand on the privacy issue in March.

Seema Singh and Meghan Singh, the petitioners have argued that the new privacy policy indicates the “fissures” present in Indian data protection and privacy laws.
