A 28-year-old woman from sector 19, Kharghar, Maharashtra, was allegedly set ablaze on Tuesday by a Panvel civic worker. The father of a victim claimed that she had a spat with the suspect over the phone and later went to meet him on her two-wheeler.

The victim, a scrap dealer, is battling for her life at the National Burn Centre (NBC) at Airoli.

The suspect used to sell plastic waste to the victim. He was missing from work but later turned up when his brother was called for questioning at the Kharghar police station.

“She was arguing with someone when she left. A man escorted her to Yerala hospital in Kharghar. The hospital staff asked him to take her to MGM hospital, Kamothe. He called an auto and asked the driver to drop her to the hospital and rode off. The driver informed us,” claimed Shafique Mohammad, father of the victim.

No FIR has been lodged yet as the woman told the cops that she caught the fire from the burning trash.
