The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania quashed the conviction of drugging and sexual assault on comedian Bill Cosby.
Bill Cosby has been discharged from prison after serving two years of three-to-ten years of imprisonment.
“Cosby’s convictions and judgment of sentence are vacated, and he is discharged,” the Pennsylvania Supreme Court wrote in a 79-page ruling.
Bill Cosby, most famous for his role in the TV series “The Cosby Show”, was the first celebrity to get convicted for sexual misconduct and faced criminal trials in the blow of #MeToo movement.
Bill Cosby, known for his entertaining image in the United States, faced a downfall from the grace of allegations and the eventual conviction as a sexual predator in 2018.
More than 60 women alleged that they have been sexually assaulted nu Cosby, but he was held convicted for assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004, since the statute of limitation has expired in other cases.
Bill Cosby lost his first appeal when Court ruled that the prosecution’s evidence had established Cosby’s ‘unique sexual assault playbook.’
Cosby filed a second appeal against his conviction in August last year.
Cosby’s lawyers stated that, “Their decades-old allegations, which were not part of the charges, had prejudiced the jury. It was fundamentally unfair that deposition testimony Cosby gave in a civil case regarding his use of sedative drugs and his sexual behaviours in the 1970s was heard in court.”
Three justices wrote while ruling in the case, “He must be discharged, and any future prosecution on these particular charges must be barred,”
