A local court in Uttar Pradesh has expressed concern about the conduct of certain Muslim lawyers who leave court proceedings on Fridays for namaz.

The Court emphasized that these lawyers should recognize that “work is worship” and should prioritize their judicial duties.

In response to this issue, the court issued an order stating that in cases where Muslim lawyers refrain from Court proceedings to offer Friday namaz, an amicus curiae (friend of the court) would be appointed to continue trial proceedings. This measure aims to ensure that judicial proceedings are not disrupted.

Special Judge Vivekanand Sharan Tripathi, presiding over the NIA/ATS court, issued the order during the hearing of a criminal trial involving Maulana Kalimuddin and others in connection with an illegal religious conversion case.

The Court rejected a plea from some lawyers representing an accused seeking certain documents and warned them to file any applications within the stipulated time.

During the trial proceedings, when advocates Mohammad Amir Naqwi and Jiya-ul-Jilani informed the court around 12:30 pm that they would not be able to continue cross-examination of the accused due to Friday namaz, the Court initially denied permission. However, later, considering the circumstances, the court adjourned the trial proceedings.

Expressing concern over the potential delay caused by lawyers leaving for namaz, the court urged Muslim lawyers to prioritize their judicial duties and avoid disruptions in the trial process.
