Tripura High Court dismissed a plea that sought a stay order on the ongoing investigation against five Trinamool Congress leaders and directed the police to proceed with their investigation.

The investigation also includes the party’s National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee and Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu.

The petition was filed by the TMC leader Subal Bhowmik. The Single Bench of Chief Justice Akil Kureshi dismissed the petition. The Court also directed the police to submit its final report only when the Court permits to do so.

Subal Bhowmik contended after their petition was rejected that the TMC party workers did not cause any disturbance to the police officials from doing their duty. He alleged to the administration and the police that they are harassing them for political purposes.

The aforementioned case states that some of the leaders of TMC had misbehaved with the police officials and had also stopped and disturbed them while they were on their duty on August 8.

TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu, MPs Dola Sen, and Kunal Ghosh, Tripura TMC leader Subal Bhowmik and former minister Prakash Das are some of the TMC members which were being investigated.

An FIR was filed against all of them under Section 186(Voluntarily obstructing any public servant) of the Indian Penal Code.
