The bail plea of Manish Sisodia, Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister, in relation to the liquor policy irregularities case, has been scheduled for listing on July 14 by the Supreme Court. The decision was made on Monday by a bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.

Sisodia’s counsel, Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, requested an urgent listing, citing his wife’s illness. Sisodia has approached the Supreme Court seeking bail after his plea was rejected by the Delhi High Court in the CBI and ED cases connected to alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy.

The Delhi HC, in its order dated July 3, 2023, expressed concerns about the accused’s high political positions and his potential to influence witnesses. The CBI opposed Sisodia’s bail plea, highlighting his close connections with the executive, offices, and bureaucrats, as well as his party colleagues’ attempts to sway the investigation.

Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in February 2023 for his alleged involvement in the formulation and implementation of Delhi’s new excise policy, which was later withdrawn due to allegations of misconduct. He is currently in judicial custody, with the CBI stating that he played a significant role in the criminal conspiracy.
