The Supreme Court, rebukes the State of Rajasthan for its failure to offer timely assistance in cases presented before the apex court.

Justices Surya Kant and Dipankar Datta, presiding over the bench, expressed disappointment at instances where the State’s lawyers failed to appear, leaving the government unrepresented.

The criticism arose after a lawyer representing the State requested a week’s adjournment to address a matter.

The Court, expressing its discontent, issued a caution, stating that it would consider summoning the Chief Secretary of the State if such instances persisted.

Following an apology from the lawyer, the Court instructed the registry to convey the lapse to the Advocate General of Rajasthan.

Notably, this is not the first instance where the State of Rajasthan has faced criticism for a lack of timely assistance. The bench emphasized the recurrent nature of such situations and directed the Registry to communicate the matter to the Advocate General.

The specific case being heard involved a special leave petition (SLP) filed by a juvenile accused in a criminal case.
