Chief Justice of India, Justice DY Chandrachud, has unveiled the innovative visitor management system named ‘Su-Swagatam‘ for the Supreme Court.

This newly launched portal facilitates lawyers, litigants, clerks, visitors, and members of the media to seamlessly register through the app and generate electronic entry passes for accessing the Supreme Court premises.

By utilizing this application, an entry pass will be swiftly created, and individuals will be instantly photo-identified upon entry, eliminating the need for enduring lengthy queues at the Supreme Court entrance.

Justice Chandrachud announced this groundbreaking development openly in court, prior to the commencement of proceedings on Thursday.

The Su-Swagatam portal has been functioning as a pilot project since July 25, with Justice Chandrachud revealing that over 10,000 entry passes have been successfully issued via the E-Pass System to date.

To assist users in mastering the portal’s registration and usage procedures, an instructive video tutorial is accessible both on the Supreme Court app and the portal itself.

Additionally, in case of any difficulties, legal practitioners and visitors can seek assistance at the E-Seva Kendra located at the entry gate.

Significant alterations in the filing system have also been introduced by the apex court, complemented by the assignment of personnel dedicated to enhancing the efficiency of listing fresh cases.

Justice Chandrachud enlightened the assembled legal professionals that the Supreme Court Registry now manages approximately 230 new cases daily, preparing them for listing before the court.

The Chief Justice further disclosed that “transfer petitions” have been methodically separated into distinct sections based on the relevant state, a measure aimed at expediting the process. Personnel from the transfer section have been relocated to the fresh filing segment, resulting in a reduction of the time lag between case filing and subsequent listing.

Warmly welcomed by the legal community, this announcement drew applause and appreciation from gathered lawyers.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta highlighted the significance of this advancement, noting that lawyers previously had to endure lengthy waits from 9 am to procure entry passes unless they possessed SCBA (Supreme Court Bar Association) entry cards.
