The Central Bureau of Investigation on January 3, 2022 appearing in front of the Supreme Court had its Appeal for adjournment of the Case against the Anticipatory Bail that was granted to the Accused police officials and former intelligence officials in the frame-up case involving the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

The Additional Solicitor-General for India- S V Raju, who was representing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), was seeking a time period of two weeks within which he can file a rejoinder in the Case. The Supreme Court Bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar Adjourned the matter for further discussion on January 28, 2022.

The Additional Solicitor-General argued, “The frame-up led to the arrest of scientists. The technology for the cryogenic engine was deliberately stalled for at least two decades… May be a longer conspiracy involving foreign powers…Grant of anticipatory bail at the threshold may harm the investigation.”

The Kerala High Court had granted the anticipatory Bail to the Accused persons namely P S Jayaprakash, Thampi S Durga Dutt, Vijayan and R B Sreekumar. The High Court ruled that the accused “should not be made to face a similar situation of being forced to undergo the ignominy of being incarcerated in the prison for interrogation at this old age after their retirement for an incident that took place quarter of the century ago.”

The Central Bureau of Investigation had Accused 18 people in the ISRO frame-up Case after the Supreme Court appointed Justice D K Jain Committee to look into the matter and the Committee found foul play done by the Accused in the Case against the scientists.
