According to Gujarat’s Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi, the state would soon implement a Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

According to reports, the Gujarat cabinet has given its approval for the formation of a committee to implement the UCC.

The Committee for Implementation of UCC will be led by a retired High Court judge and have three to four members, according to reports from Union Minister Parshottam Rupala.

In a press conference held at the State Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), Headquarters, the Home Minister Sanghvi said that, “a demand for Uniform Civil Code was requested by people from all over the country and the Gujarat government today under the leadership of Chief Minister has decided upon this important issue.”

According to senior BJP leader Rupala, the adoption of UCC in the State would be a huge relief for everyone who is troubled by civil disputes.

A 5-member panel led by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, a retired Supreme Court judge, had previously been established by the Uttarakhand government to review the relevant personal laws in the State and to put UCC into implementation.
