SC to Hear Plea of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind Against Demolition Drive Today

The Vacation Bench of Justice AS Bopanna and Justice Vikram Nath will likely to hear the Petition today filed by Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, a Muslim body against the demolition drive taking place in Uttar Pradesh by state government.

The Petition is seeking direction to be made by the Court to Uttar Pradesh government that demolition should be done in accordance with the state laws and proper notice and opportunity should be given to those whose houses are being demolished.

The Plea was made that in Kanpur the rioter’s house or commercial properties are demolished without serving notices to them. This extra-legal punitive measure taken by the government against the violence took place on June 3.

The violence broke out on June 3, 2022 as against Nupur Sharma former BJP spokesperson had said something on Prophet Mohammad for which the communities clashed together.

Thereafter incidences of violence took place in Prayagraj and Saharanpur district. After these incidents government launched demolition drive according which the residential or business place is demolished of the rioter.

The former judges and advocates wrote letter to Chief Justice of India NV Ramana requesting him to take suo motto action in the matter on detention of rioter, police action on rioters and demolition taking place in the state.
