In a significant move, the President of India has given his assent to three criminal law bills aimed at revamping the country’s judicial system.

The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam are set to replace the existing Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Indian Evidence Act.

This milestone development, which transpired on Monday, has been officially communicated via the Rashtrapati Bhavan’s website. However, it is pertinent to note that the detailed information is yet to be published in the Gazette of India.

The transformative legislation, initially introduced in Lok Sabha on August 11 under the titles Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, underwent thorough scrutiny by a parliamentary committee led by Brij Lal.

After a comprehensive examination, the bills were successfully passed by the Lok Sabha on December 20, followed by approval from the Rajya Sabha on December 21.
