A Plea requesting the Delhi High Court to direct the Centre as well as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to come up with a policy to generate Rs 50 coins for the visually impaired people of the country.

The Plea was filed by Advocate Rohit Dandriyal seeking directions for the Authorities to withdraw the new Rs 50 currency notes, which is making it difficult for the visually challenged people to differentiate between other currency notes because of its design, size and tacky marks.

The Petition asserted that the Centre and the RBI have implemented many schemes for the profit of the visually impaired people and have generated coins of denomination of Rs1,2,5,10 and 20.

However, the currency notes of Rs1,2,5,10,20,100,500 and 2000 are easy to use by the visually challenged people but the problem arises with Rs.50 note because it is not distinguishable from Rs. 100 and Rs. 500 notes.

The High Court primarily Ordered the Government as well as the RBI to scrutinize the new currency notes and coins as the visually impaired were facing difficulties in using them.

The Court had also directed the RBI and Government to scrutinize the Rs. 200 and Rs.50.

The Delhi High Court has listed this Plea and reserved it for hearing on February 25, 2022.
