Notice sent to BMC by Bombay High Court over shed in Crawford Market

The Bombay High Court on December 20, 2021 sent a notice to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) regarding a bamboo shed that has been made over the Crawford Market in Mumbai, without following the relevant norms and Statutory Provision.

The Bombay High Court issued the notice in regards with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that was filed by on Kamlakar R Shenoy. According to the Petitioner, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation built a temporary bamboo shed to accommodate traders working in the Crawford Market, a part of which is being renovated currently.

The Petitioner Accused the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation of building the bamboo shed for the traders at Crawford Market, without complying with the appropriate norms that specifies the necessities for such a construction.

The Bombay High Court Division Bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice M S Karnik issued the Notice to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in regards the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by resident of Mumbai, Kalamkar R Shenoy.

The Division Bench of Bombay High Court has Ordered the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the Maharashtra Government to file an Affidavit pertaining to the aforementioned issue of the ‘bamboo shed’, till January 15, 2022.
