The Punjab & Haryana High Court citing a threat to social fabric of society, refused to grant protection to a Jind live-in couple allegedly threatened by the girl’s family.

The bench of Justice Anil Kshetarpal, rejected the protection saying, “If such protection as claimed is granted, the entire social fabric of the society would get disturbed.”

The petitioners, a 21 year old boy and an 18 year old girl from Jind district of Haryana had approached court for protection of “Life and Liberty” from the relatives of the girl and apparently feared that the family would implicate the boy in a false criminal case.

The counsel on behalf of petitioners argued that the nature of their relationship made it even more important for the authorities to save them from any harassment and grant them protection.

“Such type of relationship will certainly put an end to the dowry,” the lawyer said.

However, the court dismissed the plea on no ground to grant protection.
