Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray received notice from the Dindoshi Court in Mumbai to be present before the court on 5th January 2021.

Thackeray has been summoned on tech giant Amazon’s plea before the court after its posters were torn by MNS workers as there is no Marathi language option in the Amazon app.

MNS had also started a campaign last month which demanded incorporating Marathi as a language in Amazon’s app. They have alleged that many Marathi people were not able to use the app due to the absence of the Marathi language option.

A letter had also been written by the MNS to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos proposing the introduction of Marathi as a language option. Other languages like Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu are given as an option in the app but not Marathi even being an extensively used language, the letter stated.

“Responding to the letter Mr. Bezos had apologised and also a meeting had been held to deal with the same,” the vice president of MNS’s youth wing Akhil Chitre said.
