Maharashtra IPS officer Subodh Kumar Jaiswal takes charge as CBI Director

IPS officer Subodh Kumar Jaiswal took charge as director of the CBI.

Jaiswal is a 1985-batch officer of the Maharashtra Cadre, he served as the Chief of the CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) till now. Previously, he served as Maharashtra’s director general of police in the past.

For the past three months the Central Bureau of Investigation was working without a regular Chief after the tenure of Rishi Kumar Shukla was completed on 3rd February.

The high powered selection committee comprised of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana and Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, shortlisted three names-

  1. SSB DG Kumar Rajesh Chandra (1985-Bihar cadre IPS)
  2. VSK Kaumudi (1986- Andhra Pradesh cadre)
  3. Subodh Kumar Jaiswal (1985- Maharashtra Cadre)

Jaiswal who served as Director General of Maharashtra Police, was given the preference over the other two officers due to his seniority, as reported by the sources in government.
