Kerala High Court declines more time to oppose Lakshwadeep draft regulation

The Plea for granting more time for Lakshwadeep residents to inform their objections to the reforms being carried out by the new administrator on Tuesday was turned down by the Kerala High Court.

Around 600 suggestions were received by the administration and they have been conveyed to the government, Central Government had informed the Court.

In the course of Tuesday’s hearing a division bench asked Lakshwadeep administration to respond to the Plea seeking free distribution of ration to islanders in view of Covid-19 restriction by Monday.

The Court accepted the demand of administration for more time, it said it won’t grant a further extension of time beyond Monday.

It was alleged by the petition that a representation filed to the administration to distribute ration to the islanders as livelihood are affected due to the  Covid-19 restriction did not evoke any response.

A counsel representing the administration has submitted that rice was distributed to eligible persons so that nobody has to endure starvation in Lakshwadeep.
