Justice UU Lalit stated that about 365 Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) have been set up to extend free legal aid to poor population of the country.

LADC is funded by NALSA in order to provide free legal aid to the accused to defend himself/herself in criminal trials.

LADC is government-funded similar to a Public prosecutor. Both the prosecution and defence will be funded by the Government.

Justice UU Lalit stated that a system of checks and balances will also have to be developed in order to generate faith in the minds of the people regarding the legal services.

In order to yield productive results from this system, Justice Lalit suggested that: The right people need to be selected, the workings need to be monitored and the course needs to be corrected time and again.
